Here's the deal.
First I Installed WinXP (1) -> C:
Then I Installed WinXP (2) on a different partition -> L:

C:\Boot.ini on winXP (1/C:)'s was modified by the installation of
winXP(2/L). No great surprise there. Needed to support multiboot menu.

However C:\WINXP\system32\config\system, system.LOG, software, and
software.LOG (1/C:) have all been modified by the instalation process of
winXP(2/L:).

This means the act of installing the second copy of winXP(2/L:) modifies
the registry of the first copy of winXP (1/C:).

To my way of thinking that should not have happend. Would love to have
someone here tell my what the mods are and why they are!

Anyway,

So, how do I unistall the 2nd copy of winXP(2/L:) such that the first copy
(1/C:) is restored to the exact state it was in before I installed the 2nd
copy (2/L:).

The first install of winXP (1/C:) has NOT been booted or otherwise modified
any way by any program (except for the surprising behavior of the
installation process for the 2nd install of winXP(2/L).

I was planing on just wiping partition L: and reformating it.... but the reg
mod pretty much means its not as simple as that.

Someone please explain. Thanks.

You can format the WinXP version on L: No problem there. Then use the
Recovery Console to edit the boot.ini file. Or you can do it yourself by rt
clicking MyComputer>select
Properties>Advanced>Startup and Recovery-Settings>Edit. Just delete the
line that contains the XP version on L:
