Won't do, no. Would then be able to use it on any network.

I was basically looking at selling/trading it in and getting an iPhone
4 which means an unlocked one would be better. At the moment I'm not
heading iPhon3 4'wards though with all the problems, so looks like I'll
be with O2 'til December and then start hunting for cheap deals on any
network going.

Interesting - I'm somehow not surprised yet not entirely sure why I'm
not surprised.

Cheers,
Ian

When o2 send you the text, the next time you sync with iTunes it will
tell you the phone is unlocked. I guess it's part of the unlocking
process. With other phones you have to put a code into the phone so I
presume iTunes does that.

When you get the text from O2, you put a different SIM in the phone and
then sync with iTunes. I seem to remember iTunes will tell you then that
the phone is unlocked.

I vaguely recall from my time at Vodafone that an SMS can contain
control codes. The text itself probably changes a setting on the iPhone;
maybe the same one that the jailbreak unlockers change.

Sounds like it's worth me doing anyway just in case I want to sell it in the
future.
