From: Jerry on 23 May 2010 09:53 It has been several months now since Firefox-3.6.3 was released into the ports system. Has a viable version of Java been created to work with this version of Firefox? I am unable to locate any information in regards to this on the FreeBSD web page. -- Jerry FreeBSD-Ports.user(a)seibercom.net Disclaimer: off-list followups get on-list replies or get ignored. There are a couple of old mails in freebsd-java but as far as I can see, no progress has been made. That is probably the best mailing list to enquire on. -- Peter Jeremy

Lately, I have been forced to use my laptop which has Windows installed to access sites that make extensive use of Java. Unfortunately, even ESPN, which I access extensively, needs Java to operate correctly. The only viable options appears to be reverting to a deprecated version of Firefox or keep my laptop at my side at all times. That also poses a problem since I really hate retreating. I know that this will not be a popular suggestion; however, rather than spending time bumping version numbers in FreeBSD, perhaps the developers could invest some time in making the present product more functional. Example: drivers for 'n' class wireless cards. Virtually none exist in FreeBSD at present. The inclusion of a modern version of Java. Nothing in the notes I have read regarding the still unofficially released 8.1 version leads me to believe that either of these deficiencies has been addressed. Just my 2¢. -- Jerry FreeBSD-Ports.user(a)seibercom.net Disclaimer: off-list followups get on-list replies or get ignored. That would be because these are handled by two entirely different organizations. The FreeBDD core development group handles "bumping version numbers in FreeBSD" while the FreeBSD Foundation handles Java development .. instead of complaining how about you vote with your money and donate to the FBSD Foundation which allows monetary voting. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (MingW32) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJL+2jSAAoJEJh00PI1XILnpTsP/2Nf+0sNwyLlPM759wzYCt9p eMEdhEZfXhhzRFpKdkdaRZjaflrQEA4V1L8Y5iOfQzmVqvxOnQsRYsrSOHzK+Tc2 Qgq59OlwwErsv6jmkZZJQgdsAKFxgd652QiSbtPjWTsBA7GzTxw9PefdFF48/pt+ w8anN/+3VFaoEn05ttHJM/2NJv0P1BUosJuuCt6ZbxmLDv8HH58uOrUmn0/OjU2X dFalbI3fGr8EBO9EsFn1ZspXOlB7UIvnpdXJVZzmqvi9xfA9mA7kCCqm3O9j7nMy /W9GNIT2nIeUnLR/w+1BO3KWNYP0hamTaPKN6pOJP6wLgQizGN0ArvX/jgiR6JsF Zf6Okh/Y6mf2b/r0MWiL0M+8HX+nR3VO5jkxN7fhceSDiIvCAlaP3BXP6APl+jfK jSkrf+AW6+czMESMfogf8HVkc3Mw3wEJ+iWqcbOeYwLgPPS1TbFz2QF1YZ7fxNdN 0NHIsidieUOcuw7WIYK/AKOELC4/E5oBkzR+7/xJfoWlkDMwaemJkwni6L61HAvV +xBztfDvem3ZwFsc0NXc4cWnZlgdIHfz85Ut3SzGpr1o0T4r0tNjDjmWJCuijkHF xIgPrq99YdeEgsJMqozC7yKG5ErcGvFCVXfhMzT1+axlec/E2OEOGqY8DSeZ3/mR bxq3XMzQHfrb6khbNXy1 =FwpC -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ freebsd-ports(a)freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ports To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-ports-unsubscribe(a)freebsd.org" |
