From: Carl Gross on 3 May 2010 17:30 I would like to install the Windows Server SP2 update, but BPA tells me I have to remove 135 updates to do so. How do I know which ones I need to take off?

From: Carl Gross on 5 May 2010 15:47 I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I'd ask it here. SBS 2003 BPA v2.5.2893.2 It says remove 135 updates before installing SP2. There is a condition where Windows 2003 SP2 may fail to install on Windows 2003/SBS 2003 if a ton of updates have been installed over time. I think that is what the rule is getting at. 1. Your first step should be to run a Microsoft Update scan to see if you get offered KB 940276. If so, try to install that package. If you are offered it, it will remedy the issue and install Windows 2003 SP 2. If you are not offered that update, see step 2 below. 940276 You may be unable to apply more updates at a certain point on a Windows Small Business Server 2003-based computer http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;940276 2. If you are not offered 940276, you can follow one of two options in the blog post below to remedy this situation yourself. Please note, you only need to perform the manual method or the batch file method, you do not need to do both. Then install Windows 2003 SP2 yourself (either from download or Windows Update/WSUS). http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2007/06/22/sp2-may-fail-to-install-if-a-large-number-of-updates-are-installed.aspx -- Chris Puckett This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
