Hello

Instead of pressing ALT+F4, or instead of using my mouse to click on the
red"X" in Windows XP, how can I set the escape key to close the window or
end the program?

I suppose there is some freeware that can detect the "esc" key (or any other
key for that matter) and translate it to anything I want, but I'm hoping
there may be a regedit to do it natively within XP.

Any ideas please?

thanks

DDS

I do not know if there is such a utility,
but I would advice against it.

Many software relay in the usual ESC functionality.
And you could confuse yourself when which is active.

Maybe you should configure a biometric device/sensor/input so that if
you blink your eyes twice in rapid succession all of the windows and
open programs will close sequentially; that is two quick blinks close
the top window or active program; two more quick blinks close the next
one, and so forth.

Well, a while ago I did have a motion sensor built into my chair which
detected when I was rocking backwards and forwards; the program sensed my
mounting levels of frustration and automatically rebooted the computer for
me. I wrote the code for it in C# and called it "Romanian Orphan"

You'd like Xnview in that case! http://www.xnview.com

Also PSPad http://www.pspad.com/en/

(Two of my favourites).
