From: Wilforve on 22 Jun 2010 23:48 Recently i have installed Windows Server 2008 on my server in my basement and deployed it as a file server and a VPN so ica naccess my Files remtely since im in the military and travel alot. Heres my issue: From home i can do the following: Access all shares through my networking VPN inside the network to the server VPN to the Routers IP (my server is set to have ports forwarded to allow for VPN) Stream Video Access files Remotely (IE outside my home network) I can setup the VPN so it shows that im connected and the ipconfig in command prompt shows the link is active, however i have the same IP of my server and cant access any resources at all. I can Remote desktop to the server and take full control of it What do i need to change or install to make me able to access my shares remotely? Server Specs: Windows sever 2008 1 Nic File Server Role installed Network and Routing Role Installed - Custom setup -VPN Access -Nat Installed Various shares allowing for multiple hardrives to be accessed Ports forwarded to allow VPN and VPN pass through enabled -- Wilforve ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wilforve's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/235801.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-server-help/1348217.htm http://forums.techarena.in

From: Wilforve on 25 Jun 2010 20:20 Ok, Update VPN is Now active, i forgot to include that since my server only has 1 Nic in it i have to use the custom configuration and the VPN has to be on the same ip address range and the same subnet mask, that being said i am now on my network and can see all my shares on OTHER computers of my network, But i can not see the Network shares or anything to do with the server itself for that matter. Any light someone can shed on why a VPN server cant share files as well? -- Wilforve ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wilforve's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/235801.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/windows-server-help/1348217.htm http://forums.techarena.in
From: Pegasus [MVP] on 26 Jun 2010 08:24 When you launch a VPN then you automatically get a second "adapter" which is basically a dial-up adapter. This adapter will get the same subnet address as the subnet address of the target. To make things work, you must give your physical NIC a different subnet address.
