Hi Guys,

I have 6 SBS 2008 servers out in the field all of which are fully
patched and not running under Hyper-V.

All machines have the native backup software running.

All machines consistently receive this error:

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error
VSS_E_WRITER_STATUS_NOT_AVAILABLE. An older active writer session
state is being overwritten by a newer session. The most common cause
is that the number of parallel backups has exceeded the maximum
supported limit. hr = 0x80042409. Operation: PostSnapshot Event
Context: Maximum supported sessions: 64 Completed sessions: 8 Active
sessions: 64 Aborted sessions: 0 Writer failed sessions: 0 New snaphot
set: {b8c9d8d2-738a-42c4-968e-c260b10c554e} Old snapshot set:
{a0d8679b-ed3e-4822-aa20-0d1c31387c2a} Old operation: 1014 Old state:
1 Old failure: 0 Execution Context: Writer Writer Class Id:
{b2014c9e-8711-4c5c-a5a9-3cf384484757} Writer Name: NTDS Writer
Instance ID: {cab48568-9259-41ce-86f6-fbf6d0411acf}

I've looked around and seen a reference to a hotfix but it appears to
only be for Hyper V.

The backups say they are working but this error gets logged 80+ times
a day. It is troubling and I'm not sure how to proceed.

Has anyone else worked through this?

Thanks much in advance.
