From: Andy on 11 Mar 2010 23:36 I've been having a few problems with sound lately: 1. The PCM channel is available in alsamixer, but not kmix. This went away with the latest round of KDE updates. 2. The master channel does not turn off the sound when set to zero. It gets lower, but not low enough. The PCM channel has to be turned down for the sound to actually get quieter. KDE 3 didn't have this problem. 3. What is this error: Unknown hardware: "HDA-Intel" "Nvidia MCP67 HDMI" "HDA:10ec0888,18491e01,00100001 HDA:10de0067,00670000,00100000" "0x1849" "0x0888"? I don't remember which kernel I was running when I first saw it, but it's also relatively new. Andy

I'd guess that the change in KDE was made intentionally to simplify the mixer, so submitting a bug is not likely to help you. Use alsamixer. > 2. The master channel does not turn off the sound when set to zero. To turn off the sound, use "mute". (If it exists.) > 3. There are no saved mixer settings, and your specific model isn't known, so the mixer controls are initialized with generic default values. If you set the volumes with alsamixer and then run "alsactl store", this message will vanish. HTH Clemens

I don't remember which kernel I was running when I first saw it, It means YOUR version of Alsa doesn't really support _this_ variety of the HDA-Intel sound on the motherboard (HDA-Intel is a sort of container name, the actual sound processor chip may vary). Try installing a newer version of Alsa (especially the kernel modules FOR your release of the kernel). -- ******************************************************************* ** Eef Hartman, Delft University of Technology, dept.
