Using the md5sum command under Debian Linux Lenny
gets results for a cd-sized iso in about 9 seconds
on this machine ....

645M .... VL6.0-Light-LIVE-Final.iso
32K .... /usr/bin/md5sum

Funny, my own freeware MD5 checker ( near the bottom of this page->
http://angusj.com/delphi/ ) was faster on the files I tested.

Hmmm. I prefer Md5Checker, <http://getmd5checker.com/>, which is free
and has a nice Windows interface.

I've just tested FastSum and Md5Checker against an image of Ubuntu
10.04. Both took 17 seconds, although I had to time Md5Checker
manually.

Having said that, unlike Md5Checker, FastSum is a proper command line
utility which is useful and makes it a keeper. :)

My favorite program for checking MD5s has been and remains, digestIT 2004:

Not sure that it works on Vista and 7 though.

Although the name of the program seems to indicate that it's no longer
under development, the home page is dated this year and there is a 64
bit version of the program there.

I like being able to right click on a file and select the option to
check a hash file from the dropdown menu.
