That's what I said in the OP:

but somehow that got lost in your quoting. Your way of putting it is
clearer though and I agree. Those features would be real nice. If I find
another *easy to use* program which has those features, I'll post about it.

I should have mentioned in the OP that I had not gotten acceptable
results with Avidemux and that was why I had gone looking for something
else.

No ad, CD, commercial, cripple, demo, nag, share, spy, time-limited,

Like most people I have no problems with Avidemux, although if you need
to do more than occasional video editing a payware solution is the best
bet, Really Avidemux is more of a conversion utility than an editor.

For freeware, maybe try

http://software.tutorialsroom.com/video-edit-master/

it is based on mencoder rather than ffmpeg so worth a try.

You don't say what video format you use but if it is
compressed .avi's .mp4's or HD .mts then editing can be a bit hit & miss.

Note the bottom of the above web page re: installed codecs.

I like it better as an editor. Avidemux few presets aren't as thorough
as most converters. For example, converting to NTSC DVD mpeg2 requires
the user use a filter to manually resize the video to 720x480 and to
use a framerate filter to set FPS to 29.97. All other NTSC DVD
converters set those standard DVD parameters automatically via
presets.

Xmedia Recode and especially Any Video Converter have easier
interfaces and handy presets for video converting.

Like most freeware editors, Video Edit Master will give horrid
artifacts at cut points unless you advance by keyframe. Avoid
frame-by-frame advance cuts with this app and with Avidemux.
Video Edit Master only supports AVI, MPEG1 and MPEG2.

Tried it and liked it. Thanks, John.

You're welcome. It was the only thing I could find which does the job
easily and without a horribly confusing interface.
