The whole point of a virtual machine is that it is independent of the host
on which it runs. The "machine" is a software construct. It has its own
emulated hardware, which does not change when you change hosts.

No - all software virtualisation solutions work the same way i.e. by
hardware emulation.

Not with virtualisation. If you absolutely must have more than one operating
system using the same physical hardware, you'll need to go for a multi-boot
solution. Of course, you can then run only one of the installed OS at any
one time...
