Could be a virus, but most likely not. Do you have access to antimalware
programs (MalwareBytes' Antimalware or SuperAntiSpyware).
Have you updated your OS recently? Maybe a revisit of Microsoft's
"Malicious Software Removal Tool" is in order? Do you have an antivirus
program?

If the malware is interfering with your ability to download fixes, do
you have another computer available with which to accomplish this? If
the malware interferes with your ability to execute the fix, can you get
to "Safe Mode"?

I take it you are not asking about a Commodore Plus4 running Geos (this
*is* a microsoft group) but it would be good to include information when
asking a question.

You've got a slower than usual desktop computer - what else?

May or may not be malware related - a bad driver update can cause this
too.

It can be due to...
- disk fragmentation
- failing disk
- not enough RAM
- too many stubs being loaded into memory

I truly doubt it is a virus. Maybe non-viral malware but doubtfully a "virus".

All viruses are malware but not all malware are viruses.
