Wait a few seconds, then it will start. Well at least here on XP.

On my iPod Touch, it works using finger swipes for direction, but is
slow and unfortunately silent.

Hmm! Interesting ...

.... but I'm not so keen on widgets for that sort of thing.

I don't like being tied to Dashboard - if nothing else, it's an ugly UI
and prevents you using everything else when it's active.
