Yesterday I realized that it had been almost 2 months with no "updates
are ready" notices.
So I went to "Windows Updates" and was told that I didn't have the
required files or registry and to click a link to get them. Instead I
got a "404 not authorized" (or some such).
Then I clicked the other link and navigated to a link that has me
enter a series of dlls (7 total ?)into cmd prompt (or what ever that
"Start/run/cmd/...function is called).
Then I tried Windows Update and it went through and I got 16
backlogged updates !

I can't think of what may have happened 2 months ago to cause this
unless it was that CCleaner thing I think I ran around that time.
Now the computer shuts right down like it used to ,without the long
delays too.

Thinking about this sequence of events,I have decided to keep a log
of changes etc.I make to better troubleshoot probs in the future.

Check your "Updates" settings. Windows is notorious for uncommanded
changes to settings and configurations.

I keep "Updates" set to notify, but not download until I choose. There
is a setting that "downloads" updates, but doesn't install them. If you
used CCleaner, it could have delete those files before they were
installed.

A bit late perhaps.... sorry.
HP updates can do this.
Nothing to do with CCleaner.

That's why I always keep my computer dirty... old good dirt!

Seems that the cleaners clean too much, I always had more problems
when using them.

I solved with multiple OS each one dedicated to a different kind of
work, so, less cross installations, less HD space used, less swap, etc
etc.
