Essentially there is no oil barrel. It is not possible to distinguish between barrel of oil and barrel of apples when you have zero of each. This is because of anti-uniqueness. Zero apples is indistinguishable from zero oranges or zero of anything else. Zero apples is a trivial apple. Zero oranges is a trivial orange. Zero of anything has the property of anti-uniqueness. If you have zero of something, it may be regarded that it is indeterminate whather it is an apple, orange, galaxy, dumptruck, whatever. Indeterminacy is clearly an important part of this problem.

I have 3 empty oil barrels and 4 empty apple barrels. How do I distinguish an empty oil barrel from an empty apple barrel? I dare say you don't know much about barrels. Essentially there is no oil barrel. ============================================= Essentially there are 3 empty oil barrels and seven barrels. Essentially I want to know how I distinguish an empty oil barrel from an empty apple barrel? I dare say you don't know much about barrels. It is not possible to distinguish between barrel of oil and barrel of apples when you have zero of each. ============================================= But I don't have zero of each, I have zero oil, zero apples and SEVEN EMPTY barrels. I dare say you don't know much about barrels. How do I distinguish an empty oil barrel from an empty apple barrel?

It is equally valid to believe that it loses it's identity as an apple, and is in fact anti-unique.
From: Huang on 14 Feb 2010 19:22 If you are looking for an argument, try arguing against this: "Every probabilistic problem can be restated in terms of existential indeterminacy, and conservation of existential potential." While you are at it, please explain why the expansion of the universe is neccesarily a global expansion, and not a local contraction ? I think that GR says that these motions are equivalent.....so.....what's up with that ?
