From: John on 26 Jul 2010 04:26 This is the second Belkin USB 2 Plus Hub 7 I've had. The first got red hot and stopped working, the next one stopped working but didn't get red hot, unplugging the USB feed from the Mac then plugging in again got it working. This was on an iMac G5. I got a new iMac, alls well for a while, I then got the spinning beachball, lots of trouble restarting, unplugged the hub, problem goes away, plug the hub in again, problem is back. Is it the hub or the power supply or something else the problem. John

Is it the hub or the power supply or something else the problem. I have a couple of 4 port hubs here, both cause problems if plugged into a Mac directly. I have one on my Airport Extreme, and that's been fine. I've also had issues with the Trust ones too. Otherwise I've found a little 7 port hub from Hong Kong that's worked a treat for about a year now. They're now available in the UK from eBay at a good price. I never ended up buying one (I seem to be much better at buying expensive gadgets, and always procrastinate endlessly about the cheaper ones, and half the time end up getting nothing), but the reviews on Amazon and so on are quite positive, and they look fairly nice too. b. -- <bas(a)bas.me.uk> <URL:http://bas.me.uk/> `Zombies are defined by behavior and can be "explained" by many handy shortcuts: the supernatural, radiation, a virus, space visitors, secret weapons, a Harvard education and so on.' -- Roger Ebert

I have two Kensington powered hubs, on different machines. Both have worked perfectly. I have in the past had bad experiences with Belkin kit (in this case a router). Broadly, over many years' use and combining my direct experience with my family's, I have learnt to trust Kensington gear, but not Belkin. -- Peter
