Hello.

I noticed my old Debian box, with Kernel v2.6.30-2-686 #1 SMP Fri Dec 4
00:53:20 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux, has Bluetooth installed and running.
Is that part of the kernel or somewhere else? Dmesg command showed:

How can I remove/disable it since this old box and I don't have and use
Bluetooth. I tried looking through my installed Debian packages and only
found:

$ dpkg -l | grep ^ii |grep bluetooth
ii gnome-bluetooth 2.28.6-2
GNOME Bluetooth tools
ii libbluetooth3 4.60-1
Library to use the BlueZ Linux Bluetooth stack
ii libgnome-bluetooth7 2.28.6-2
GNOME Bluetooth tools - support library

I tried removing each one, but they seem to remove Gnome which I do not
want to do. I am not even sure if that is where Bluetooth is coming from
and I wasn't even in Gnome/X.

I assume it is from Kernel because of:
$ lsmod |grep bluetooth
bluetooth 46960 6 sco,rfcomm,bnep,l2cap

AND

$ locate bluetooth

Which package manager? I tried both apt-get and aptitude. :(

This means it is a kernel module.

Delete or rename (move somewhere else, outside the /etc/init.d/ and
/etc/rc?.d/ directories) the bluetooth scripts in the various rc?.d
directories. That should keep the various bluetooth modules from
getting loaded.

There are the kernel modules (*.ko).

> Do I assume I have to customize Kernel to remove it?

No, just prevent the kernel modules from loading. Either my way,
delete/rename the scripts in /etc/rc?.d (actually symlinks, but...) or
do what another poster suggested and blacklist. I prefer to
delete/rename since the bootup won't even spend time reading in the
scripts and checking the blacklist.
