Too late now, I've added a couple of 1gig DDR3/1066 sodimms to the
pile of castoffs.

I was quite intrigued to find that (what with the relentless march of
technology) the MBP 13" (2009) with 2.26GHz C2D is about 30% faster
than the Mini (2009) 2.0GHz for CPU/RAM oriented tasks, even with
nominally the same chipset and the same memory.

More/better cache on the MBP chip, I guess.

Probably right.

I think I'll wait for the next processor upgrade before I change again.
