From: Yousuf Khan on 12 Aug 2010 18:00 I have a laptop that has Windows XP Home installed on it. It's fully patched up to the latest service pack and patches. I've got the File and Printer Sharing module loaded on. But any file folders that are shared from this laptop cannot be accessed by other machines, even if they are other Windows XP machines. This laptop can mount and use shares from other machines, it just doesn't work the other way. My desktop pc was also once running Win XP, Pro in this case. I was able to do all kinds of sharing from that machine. It has been since upgraded to Windows 7, and still the laptop can see and make use of folders shared from the desktop like normal, but not the other way. Yousuf Khan

However, you bring up an interesting point. Sometimes the machine thinks I'm on a public network rather than a trusted network. I'll have to check that again. Yousuf Khan

I didn't think to rerun the Network Setup Wizard to do this. I'd been setting up folder sharing since Windows 2000 days, so I tended to go for the manual method setting it up. Didn't think there would be a difference between that and the wizard. Yousuf Khan |
