Hi. On my desktop, I ran XP Pro, SP2 + Office 2007. My Brother MFC620CN
worked fine (but I did need to add a download for scan to email to work).

I bought a new HP laptop to be my main computer - 6730b. I cannot for the
life of me get documents from word, PDF or that are attachements to emails to
print. Nothng prints when I try, but the document is in the print queue - x2
(one shows deleting status). Subsequent documents queue without duplication.

When I restart me computer, the documents in the print queue print.
However, my jetstar PDF itinerary comes out in gobbledygook!

Computer techies could not either. They could get my printer to work on
their computer, and another printer to work on my laptop, but not my printer
to work with my laptop! They suggested uninstall office, and reinstall
(about to do this, but I have run office diagnostics and no issues show - so
can't see it will make a difference).
Rang brother - They said I needed XP SP3. I downloaded that, and it has
made no difference.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer - to no avail.

I installed a friends Brother printer which runs on control centre 3, and
that worked.
My MFC620CN runs on control centre 2.

Any suggestions?
I'd rather not replace the printer - it worked fine with the same software
on another computer, and I can't see why it wouldn't with this laptop.

HELP - & grateful of any solutions.

Unlikely to be anything to do with Office.
According to Brother site its compatible with Win98* thru WinXP and your HP
6730b came preinstalled with Vista
So did you downgrade Win?

Actually, I have an Hp laptop 9500 series that runs Vista and worked with
the MFC620CN.
The Brother drivers and install package may be your main problem.
To get things to work, you may need to download the Brother cleanup utility
(If it's still on the web site.)
With the printer disconnected from the laptop -- or the network
shut/disconnected from the laptop--
run the cleanup utility.
Install the Brother drivers etc. using a downloaded update copy, as if the
Brother is or will be connected via USB
Don't use the Brother CD shipped with the printer.
When the brother is actually connected via USB, additional install steps
occur, due to the scanner, etc.
Make sure everything works via the USB connection.

Next use a downloaded version of the network install if you (very likely)
are going to use on the network.
I had better luck giving the printer a fixed tcpip address, although it's
not (supposedly) a necessity.
The address should be outside but next to addresses assigned dynamically by
a router.
Example-- The router is set to assign 198.162.0.10 thru 192.168.0.100 You
would assign 192.168.0.101 to the MFC
It's also possible to redirect the MFC from local to network. This can have
an advantage of making some scanner related software work.

The Windows built-in scanner capability can cause a conflict with the
brother scanner software.
You may be offered a choice between windows scanner drivers, brother
drivers, and possibly even another driver.
Which works best for you is a matter of guess work.

I got tired of using the 620Cn, and replaced it with an Epson MFC. Speed and
ink consumption were major considerations.
As always newer, faster, better cheaper, less hassle models are out there.

Many of the newer models do not support fax send or receive from a P/C.
