From: titus12 on 6 Feb 2010 20:57 I am building a computer just to use Win7 64bit, fastest memory and the Gigabyte GA H57 USB3 motherboard. Does it matter if you use a brand of memory that is not in the memory support doc. for the motherboard? Thank you, David

Just buy a brand and type that is popular or recommended by users you trust. I do not buy expensive memory, or really cheap memory. Never had any issues. Sardine
From: Bobby Johnson on 7 Feb 2010 09:26 Sometimes it is a problem, but you never know until you try. I had one motherboard that was very picky and I ended up purchasing RAM on the manufacturers list. My experience with Gigabyte though is they are pretty forgiving about the memory. From: Carlos on 7 Feb 2010 10:06 Agreed. I have used 3 different gigabyte mobos and had no issues with memory brands. Kingston works fine for me. You'll probably get answers supporting every viewpoint, but here's mine: I'm getting too old for this "stuff". Back in the day, I loved cannibalizing old PCs and creating a frankenputer with the case from this, the motherboard from that, the 386/486 from another, whatever RAM I could get my hands on. It got a little trickier as I moved from AT to ATX because I couldn't afford to upgrade all the components at once. Anyway, it got to the point that it was a crapshoot whether a given combination of motherboard/CPU/RAM would all work together, so I stopped trying to guess. Now I go to a barebones shop and either get the mobo+ram +cpu package or even go the extra mile and have them put it all in a case and test it before shipping. I can still add whatever cheapie peripherals and drives (or move them over from the old box), but I no longer have to worry about compatibility issues. pricewatch (http://www.pricewatch.com) is a great source for comparison shopping and they have categories specifically for barebones (case+mb+ram +cpu) and mobo+ram+cpu combos, sorted by price with user reviews on the vendors. -- Peter B.
