From: froggygremblin on 21 Dec 2009 16:28 Have a Windows XP home network with 3 PCs - 2 rin XP one rund Vista. One PC shares an HP 6100 Inkjet, and an HP820 Inkjet. I added a Windows 7 PC to the Network. I 'connected' to the shared printers on the XP machine. Whe I send a print job to either printer I can open the print que for both printers from the Windows 7 machine and see the job but it never prints. The Queue empties but no document comes out. I was able to print a test page to the HP 6100 once but never to the 820. Also after the one succesful test page Windows 7 says it can't start the print queue. All of the other PCs can print with no problem. Any idea why the Win 7 machine fails? Thanks for any help

From: Jack [MVP-Networking] on 21 Dec 2009 17:42 Hi Did you install the printer drivers on the Win 7 computer via add a Network printer? Since you are using Win & and Win XP Win 7 should not be configured as Homegroup but as Work Network given it the same Network name as the WinXP. Jack (MS, MVP-Networking). I am able to print from win7 now after doing the following: 1) Installed new win7 printer driver on the win7 PC. 2) [devices and printers] 3) [Add a printer] 4) [add a bluetooth or wireless printer] 5) The selected printer failed to install, so I selected "The printer that I want isn't listed" (even though it is listed) 6) pick option "select a shared printer by name" This syntax failed: \\computername\printername This syntax worked: http//computername/printers/printername/.printer Can someone please explain why one syntax would work but not the other?
