From: Ed Wyche on 11 Mar 2010 13:38 I was wondering on Volume Licensing. If I have a computer that has a Volume License and that computer dies how do I go about using that key again. Meaning if I have 10 licenses and I activate a computer that means I have 9 left. But say that computer dies and I get another computer and want to use that same keys without reducing my available licenses. How would I go about doing that? Thank you, Ed

From: Ed Wyche on 11 Mar 2010 16:44 Ok. Say I have 10 licenses and that means I can activate it on 10 PC's. If 1 PC dies how can I move that activation to a new PC. Volume Licenses have no activation limits,...nor do they "deactivate" if the hardware changes. However I don't have anything newer than 2003R2 & XP,...so I can't speak for any changes that may have occured with newer OSs. 10 VLs mean you can only have it running on 10 machines at once,...one machine gets taken out of service, put on a shelf of old unused machines,...OS still intact on it,.... you can load it on a new one and put the new one in service. But you cannot *legally* pull the old one back off the shelf and put it in service again without removing one of the others. So,..only 10 running and in service at once, you cannot *legally* run 11. If the old machine is sold off the OS must be removed from it. From: Dusko Savatovic on 12 Mar 2010 06:17 MAK keys generally have 200 and more activations allocated to them. When you exhaust all your activations, you can ask for a new key during your subscription period. Activations can be reused. You can use the tool called VAMT, available in the latest WAIK. With this tool you can save Installation ID and Confirmation ID. If you need to wipe your disk and reinstall the same OS on the same hardware, you can reapply MAK key, Installation ID and Confirmation ID. Your system will then be activated without contacting Microsoft or KMS. "Ed Wyche" <none12(a)none.com> wrote in message news:0049634E-D9A9-4AB5-897C-5DC54CD6B8D0(a)microsoft.com... > Ok.
