From: RodA on 7 Jan 2010 10:05 On my Toshiba Laptop (with XP Professional) I have a Wireless connect button. With this button in the off position each time I switch on the laptop XP searches for a wireless connection. If the button is on it finds my wi-fi ok, if it's off it says it can't find one. Is there anyway I can stop XP automatically searching for a wireless connection each time I switch on? I only want it to search when I need the connection.

Perhaps you should ask Toshiba support. Have you reinstalled or updated the wi-fi driver, or use the factory installed driver? -- pa
From: David B. on 7 Jan 2010 13:36 Of course it's going to search for a connection when you turn the wireless on, that's what it's supposed to do. -- -- "RodA" <RodA(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:D1EC1796-D2DE-43E1-B448-92414E98FEEE(a)microsoft.com... > On my Toshiba Laptop (with XP Professional) I have a Wireless connect > button. > With this button in the off position each time I switch on the laptop XP > searches for a wireless connection. > > If the button is on it finds my wi-fi ok, if it's off it says it can't > find > one. > > Is there anyway I can stop XP automatically searching for a wireless > connection each time I switch on? > > I only want it to search when I need the connection.

Don't switch on WiFi. > I only want it to search when I need the connection. Leave the switch in off position.

I think he means the software that manages his wireless connection is searching for a connection when the computer is "switched" on, and the wireless card switch is not "switched" on.
