From: pops2 on 16 Mar 2010 07:29 I'm trying to format a large document, with over 150 tables and figures in it. I've used captions to label them all, but I'm now finding that Word is randomly changing some that I have specified as 'table' to 'figure' and vice versa. This particularly seems to be happening with tables and figures that appear on the same page, but is not restricted to these instances. As soon as I change one caption back to the correct type, the one below will change itself to the wrong type again! I need the captions to remain as I've entered them for my table of figures and table of tables to be correct. Anybody have any idea why this may be happening, and how I can sort it out?
From: pops2 on 16 Mar 2010 07:39 I now find that Word has changed every caption in my document to a 'table', even the images I specified were 'figures'. What is it doing??!! And why???
From: DeanH on 16 Mar 2010 07:42 When you "change" a caption from Table to Figure (or vise versa) are you using the Insert Caption dialog to do so? If you do this Word thinks you are wanting to change all Table captions to Figure. Do not use the Caption dialog to change an existing caption. It should only be used to add a new caption. So if you need a change add a new caption and delete the old erroneous caption. What I have is a Autotext entry for Table and Figure captions to speed up the process of adding new captions. For more on AutoText, see http://word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/AutoText.htm and http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/Word2007_Building_Blocks_&_AutoText.htm depending on your system. You can also copy/paste the captions as required, just be aware that the numbering will not automatically update, but when you have finished your document, select the whole document (Ctrl+A) then press F9 to refresh and all will refresh correctly. Hope this helps DeanH "pops2" wrote: > I'm trying to format a large document, with over 150 tables and figures in > it.
