From: Soumendra Nath Thakur Soumendra Nath on 3 Apr 2010 04:42 Having Windows XP Professional with SP 3 OS in my Acer Aspire 3002NLC Notebook. And Sony “Optical Drive Optiarc CD-RW CRX880A” . I have installed the relevant firmware downloading it form the URL http://www.sony-optiarc.us/en/support-service/downloads/fw_cd-writer-dv-series3.htm . My system is using Nero StartSmart File Version 2.0.0.29 i.e. Nero Express 6 or Nero Vision Express 3 as my writing software, HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM STILL APPEARS TO BE WITH THE SAID Sony Optical Drive Optiarc CD-RW CRX880A. MANY BLANK CDs ARE GETTING DAMAGED ON WRITING WHILE THE WRITING SOFTWARE CONFIRMS "WRITING IS SUCCESSFUL" BUT IN REALITY THE SAID DRIVE CAN NOT OPEN THE FILES/FOLDERS IN THE WRITTEN CDs BUT AFTER OPENING IT (A WRITTEN CD) THE WAY A DIALOGBOX SHOWS AS IF STILL A BLANK CD IS THERE FOR WRITING! MEANWHILE, THE 'REGEDIT' HAS BEEN TRIED BY DELETING THE UPPER AND LOWE FILES CONCERNED THERE. SOMETIME VERY SMALL FILE LIKE 'FILE.txt' CAN BE WRITTEN WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM BUT IF A BIGGER VIDEO FILE IS WRITTEN ON IT (AFTER A MULTISESSION MODE) THEN MOST POSSIBILITY IS THAT THE WRITING WILL FAIL (THOUGH THE WRITING SOFTWARE WILL CONFIRM 'WRITTING IS SUCCESSFUL") I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE WRITING MARK ( A FAINT BURNING MARK USUALLY NOTICEABLE AFTER BURNING A CD ON THE WRITTING SIDE OF IT) IS NOT ATALL NOTICEABLE IN A WRITTEN CD BY MY SYSTEM, (SUCH BURN MARK IS NOTICEABLE WITH THE CDs WRITTEN BY OTHER COMPUTER SYSTEMS, ) BUT THAT DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN SUCH REFLECTION IS SO ONLY WITH THE PROBLEMATIC WRITTEN CDs BUT EVEN A GOOD CD (SUCCESSFULLY WRITEN WITH SAID OPTICAL DRIVE) CAN ALSO REFLECT THAT - AFTER SUCCESSFULLY BURNING A CD WITH THE SAID OPTICAL DISK DRIVE. I DO NOT REALLY KNOW HOW LONG I SHALL HAVE TO STAY WITH THE MERCY OF MY OPTICAL DRIVE SAID AND TO ENABLE ME TO SUCCESSFULLY WRITE MOST OF THE BLANK CDs ! CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH A PROPER REMEDY?

CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH A PROPER REMEDY? Have you consider using a newer version of Nero 6, either the newest version or any Nero 6 updates? Also, consider testing your drive with a different software. You can find some really good "free" burning softwares. One that might work: http://www.protectedsoft.com/descr_fb.php
