From: Jeff on 1 Feb 2007 11:13 Hi, Having probs with a new laptop running XP Media Centre Edition. We have a password protected share on the network and it refuses to remember the login / password (there is no "remember password" check box) Looked in the "stored user names and passwords" function of the user account and none are listed, and there isn't an option to add one! The user is logging in (on the laptop) with an account that has admin privileges. I've tried creating another admin account, but it has the same problem. Any ideas? Is there some hidden security type function that may be preventing the storing of passwords? Any assistance greatly appreciated, it's driving me nuts! Cheers Jeff
From: Steven L Umbach on 1 Feb 2007 22:21 I know that it works on XP Pro [stored credentials] and maybe that is not a feature of XP Media. Another possibility is to see if you can create a mapped drive in Windows Explorer [tools/mapped drive] to that share and select reconnect at logon. Thanks Steve, I think you may be right with this, I've found lots of others having the same issues when running XP Home or Media Centre. I'll have to bear it in mind when we buy laptops in future.
