While I was waiting for WLM to make up its mind, I pated the link into IE and FF. IE opened Media Player, FF opened QT (it installed with Vegas) even though I had checked "always ask first" for that file type in Options, so I went back into Options and checked "download" for x-wav and then it worked. Still, if Macs can unzip ZIP files these days, that's definitely the simplest way.
