I installed freebsd and have two immediate problems:
1. On the console the message acpi_tmp value absurd keeps appearing. It
is not possible to login on TTY 1 as this message keeps appearing.
Accordingly, I have to open a new console. How can I get rid of this
message?

2. System only halts. It does not power off. Any ideas?

Looks like I'm going to have to try a Linux distr instead :(

Ok I've figured out how to power off - shutdown -p now

The only problem is the continuous stream of:
acpi_tz0: _TMP value is absurd, ignored (-269.6C) every 5 seconds.

That was an RTFM one!

A cursory Google indicates a solution to the message:

add:

debug.acpi.disabled="thermal"

to /boot/loader.conf ...
