From: shunjiWang on 2 Apr 2008 01:04 this morning when i was in my company , I opened the active directory users and computers, and the server 2000 gave a info "naming information cannot be located because the logon attempt failed" . I restat the server 2000. And everything goes well. But for about 4 or 6 hours, the server gave the same info when I open ad users&computers. I have noted that in the system daily record there were some errors and warning (netlogon 5781 & w32time 54 62 64). I used dcdiag to test the server,it gave the info below: Domain Controller Diagnosis Performing initial setup: Done gathering initial info. If I am correct, this is a huge problem. But I need to see additional config information to ascertain this. Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the server and from the client please. Also let us know what the actual AD DNS domain name is. Just some info - A single label DNS name causies resolution and DNS registration problems with Windows 2008, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, XP and Vista . They simpley cannot register into a single label DNS zones. The EventID 5781 is indicative of a single label domain name. Also, please also read the following that explains the issue and a bandaid to get around it and force all of your clients, including the DC to properly use it. But keep in mind, this should only be a temp fix until you make plans on renaming the domain to : Information about configuring Windows for domains with single-label DNS names http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300684 -- Regards, Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.
