sorry in advance

i finally am giving ie8 a go - had been using ie7 & opera as my car ins.
site would not work on one & my credit union would not on the other -
anyway, in ie8, i see auto complete - is this like opera's password function
? that is, some of the sites i use regularly, on opera, i just click the
icon & bam, the username & pw were put in - i don't know how to do it in
ie8 - went to help but it said how to turn it off, but it's on & i see
nothing to click that will fill in the details for me

any/all, much appreciated

When you hit a page that requires a login/password, you enter the data,
IE will then prompt you or you may have a check box that says "keep me
logged in". Either way, once you answer appropriately the data should
fill in the next time you hit that page without any keystrokes.
I use it for facebook for example. I just go to the login page but I
never really see it, it just skips by.

I think this is what you are talking about. I've never seen auto
completion of forms like name and address etc. But then I use IE very
little.

You'll get more responses if I'm wrong.

al, thanks very much & that is exactly what i am speaking of, but so far, it
is not working as such - like you, i check in on facebook, but it doesn't
give me the option of keeping logged in. that's why i liked opera, for me,
it did allow me to auto fill, by clicking on an icon. i am trying to find a
browser that does it all. i pay my utilities, car ins., use facebook, a few
painting sites as well as my credit union, but to date, neither one, nor
chrome, nor firefox or maxthon, work for all the sites i use.

it's not a huge thing as i can always type in the info. but if i can find
one that will do all, that's what i look for & i was hoping ie8 would auto
fill for me.

thanks again al - enjoy your sunday

I'm not a system with IE8 right now to check about your main question,
but regarding the "side issue" with Opera not working on a site that
works with IE7, try this:

Go to the site using Opera, press the F12 key to bring up a context
menu, and click "Edit Site Preferences" on the menu.
Click the "Network" tab at the top, then click the drop-down list for
"Browser Identification", select "Mask as Internet Explorer" and click
OK.
Leave the site and then return to it, and see if it works any better
that way.
(You can try "Mask as Firefox" if the first method doesn't work).

IE8 has never filled in usernames and passwords the way I would like it to
do, esp here at home where I am not interested in security. I use Firefox
most of the time and that does a better job of remembering.
