clamav (free) provides clamdscan program that uses clamd (daemon) for
scanning.

Do you think ClamAV is effcient for my purpose ?

Whatever you want to call efficient. I am running clamd from mimedefang
so it stays in memory. The whole shebang is running in a XEN domU and I
can add virtual processors and memory to leverage additional load if
needed.
