From: wfprince on 31 Dec 2007 11:00 Here I am on New Year's Eve (almost anyway) thinking about hailing a cab and it dawned on me that maybe I should ask about cabs currently in use before hailing one. My OBP settings have "awswaxd.cab" but I have been using "awswaxf.cab" which seems to be working. I am performing an annual update of several courses and am wondering is there another cab update that I am not aware of. Should I be using "f" or "d" or another version? My own obvious answer is use "f" since it works but if there have been some improvements I'd like to make the change. Warren
From: Erik **AdobeCommunityExpert** on 3 Jan 2008 09:48 If I recall correctly, one is the 'full' player and one is the 'complete' player - the difference being the full player contains all the Xtras (I think), where the complete player is not actually complete as it does not include the Xtras (and relies on the project's map file to signify which Xtras to use and where to get them from). I think the 'd' version is complete and 'f' version is full? You can check through the OBP settings in the Web Page tab (if 'web page' is selected in the Formats tab). Choose which web player and note the field to its left and what it indicates... Either way, it doesn't really matter as long as your Xtras are listed and available. One reason you may want to use the complete player is to keep the initial player download small and possibly serve Xtras from your internal server. I think the Full player contains all of the player versions - so today that would be AW 3.5 through to 7 ... But the names used make it real easy to be confused ... Steve
From: Mike Baker **Adobe Community Expert** on 3 Jan 2008 14:34 The cab files with names ending in 'f' are FULL player. This means it contains all the players and all the support files from that version back to the first version of Authorware web player. This would be the best solution for enterprise deployment where the users' system are under strict security but the admin can "Push" installers during downtime. You would get every thing set up in one step, every player version every xmo, u32, xtra, etc. for all versions of the Authorware Web Player. The COMPLETE version of the player (I think it's awswaxc.cab) is the full player and all its support files for *only one version* of Authorware. This is good if you know which version of the player you're going to be using in all your files but not what types of media you might be using. It includes all the xtras so you can add new media types without updating the player. The MINIMAL version is only the activex control, the exe player, and a couple of the dlls. No xtras, u32, xmo. This is for people who have less restrictive user download rules and will include the xtras, u32, and dlls in the map file. The map file will itemize the support files including xtras, u32, xmo, etc that you would need for each piece you publish. .... awswaxD.cab where D is for Dynamic. This is the web player 2004. It's dynamic in that it downloads new player versions and support files as needed by the content. This activex downloads new player files into the user profile folder to allow tighter security on the system folder but still allow the player to run.
