The does that mean that somewhere in exchange 2007 it is still looking for exchange 2003 on an old server. I did notice in the hub transport send connector there is an exchange 2003 setting. Not sure how I should proceed

Not sure how I should proceed If you know the box is absolutley gone and irretrievable then use ADSIEDIT to clean AD.
