From: War on 27 Apr 2010 11:24 I currently have a GF 7950 GX2 but am looking to upgrade to a newer card. I've always been a GeForce fan and never bought anything from ATI/AMD. But I keep hearing good things so I'm open to either brand if the price and performance is right. I'm looking to spend no more that approx $200 (i'd do $250 if it was a really good deal on price/performance tho). I'm eyeb alling the GF GTX 260 and GTX 275, but am unsure which AMD card to compare these against. Can anyone tell me? Also, i've been hearing that this generation of AMD cards is better than the GeForce ones, have others found this to be the case? Any suggestions for cards would be great.

Looking at the price charts, an HD 5830 might be close. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/xfx-radeon-hd5830_6.html#sect2 One small advantage of the new ATI cards, is idle power consumption. http://www.xbitlabs.com/images/video/xfx-radeon-hd5830/xfx5830_power.png Paul

If you ever use Linux, I'd stay away from ATI. They drop support for older cards, while nVidia has continued to support their older cards. nVidia is the better investment for a Linux user IMO.

A comparable ATI card is the Radeon HD 4890, but I would stick with a GeForce. Tim Mastrogiacomo

I tried GeForce first (9500-GT), didn't like it, and then Radion (HD 4850). It's maybe a little better, IMO. But after many years of using ultra-reliable Matrox, I don't find either GeForce or Radion to be anything worth writing home about. It seems neither outfit has fully mastered constructing drivers yet. Larc
