when i tried installing
this message appeared:

"Lightning" could not be installed because it is not compatible with your
Icedove build type (Linux_x86_64-gcc3). Please contact the author of this
item about the problem.

does this mean that i have to find the 64-bit compatible for this add-on?

There is NO x86_64's lightning package.

Instead of installing from apt, you can manually download thunderbird
and sunbird's tar.gz from the website, and install ia32's runtime library.

Hi, look for the "iceowl-extension" package, "iceowl" being Debian
de-branded Sunbird. Works here on Squeeze/Sid amd64.
