From: sharpe on 8 Jan 2010 21:27 unable to drag video's. keep getting this message: The file F:\MP_ROOT\101PNV01\M2U00001.MPG cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again. What can I do? I've already updated all thats available.

I've already updated all thats available. ========================================== Movie Maker has compatiblity issues with .mpg files. Best bet would be to convert the files to the .wmv format before importing into Movie Maker. For more info...see the following article: Movie Maker 2 - Importing MPEG Files http://www.papajohn.org/MM2-Importing-Video-MPEG2.html The following freeware can do the conversion: (FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System Restore point before installing software or updates) Format Factory http://www.pcfreetime.com/ (FWIW...you may want to uncheck all the boxes on the final screen) After downloading and installing Format Factory... open the program and choose an Output Folder... (this is where you will find your files after they are converted) Drag/drop your audio/video clips onto the main screen... Select 'All to WMV' / OK... Click...Start...on the toolbar... That should do it... -- J. Inzer MS-MVP Digital Media Experience Notice This is not tech support I am a volunteer Solutions that work for me may not work for you Proceed at your own risk
From: Tom_SF on 9 Jan 2010 02:40 Try downloading this codec pack. I got it from CNET: http://www.mediaplayercodecpack.com/ Now I'm not 100% sure, but since I downloaded this codec pack, I haven't had Movie Maker crash on me at all.
