You could try to open the notebook in an ascii-editor such as Notepad (if you have Windows) or even better, an editor which is able to balance brackets, and parenthesis and so. Sometimes it's just a question of one such character going AWOL. Fix the missing character and you may be fine. And often you can save stuff by copying the usable parts to a clean notebook window.
