From: abhilash j pillai on 2 Jun 2010 19:02 hello Consider a long live conducting wire AB along the -X axis and its two ends are connected to a DC battery or source. let a charged particle Q be moving along (parallel to AB) in the direction of the conducting electrons. An observer who is at rest with AB sees a magnetic force = F An observer who is moving, sees a combination of electric (due to length contraction and hence a higher charge density) and magnetic force which sums to F. Now consider the same setup, but here the wire AB is earthed or grounded. Here the observer who is at rest sees the same magnetic force F But for the observer who is moving, the increase in charge density means that it should attract (repeal) opposite charges from the ground (earth) and the force due to the electric component is zero leaving only the magnetic component of the force and this wont be equal to F. More over attracting (or repelling) electrons from the ground/earth to the wire means (which itself depends on the velocity of the observer) means that there is a net charge accumulation in the wire. How is this discrepancy solved? I have written an article (not concerning the above matter) about classical electrodynamics. In fact the article finally agrees the fact that observers in the same frame of reference should observe same effects (or results) due to the same or similar incidents (or cause) Now at this point would go to this google groups site http://groups.google.co.in/group/electrodynamicsandmagnetism And download the file titled - electrodynamics and magnetism.pdf. it is an attempt to answer this kind of problems in a classical way and about an undone experiment ( undone to my knowledge) and send me your valuable opinions regarding this. Thanking you Abhilash J Pillai.
