From: cjfreeman on 2 Feb 2010 23:12 is there a way to convert a .pages (iWord) file to ms word? Of has anyone encountered an iWorks trial software that will run on PC?
From: Peter Jamieson on 3 Feb 2010 04:07 Sorry, AFAICS the only easy way is to open the file in Pages on Mac, then save in one of the formats that Word can read. The best you are likely to be able to do in Word is check Word->Tools->Options->General->COnfirm conversions at open (or the WOrd 2007 equivalent) and see if the "Recover text from any file" converter will help. Beyond that, it depends on high you need the conversion quality to be. I had a look around to see if anyone out there had written an XSL transform (or even some procedural code) that could convert the XML content of a Pages file to something Word could work with, but found nothing. In principle it should be possible, but a. it's not a trivial task, unless all you need to do is extract text with basic formatting (paragraphs, say) which might be simpler b. I also had a look at Apple's web pages and although they provide a programming overview of the Pages XML structure, I couldn't find a detailed schema for Pages/iWorks XML, and you would either need that to do such a transform well, or you would need to be able to deduce the intent of the various tags. Perhaps it's there somewhere though. I haven't come across a version of iWork for Windows. If it's a one-off and you are stuck, you can despam my email, send it to me and I will do my best. I have iWork 8 here so might not be able to manage iWork 9 files.
