From: g.resta on 26 Jan 2010 07:21 Hi all. On the newsgroup it.hobby.enigmi, Livio Zucca proposed to dissect a polyomino of side 1 and its double of side 2 (here with side I mean the side of the small squares which form it) and rearrange the pieces into a similar polyomino of side sqrt(5). He also proposed the problem of dissecting a pentomino and use the pieces to form a tetromino with the same area. Clearly the goal here is to use the minimal number of pieces. You can see the solutions obtained so far (and try to improve them) here: http://www.iread.it/Poly/dissections.php bye, g.
