The first CD should suffice if you have a working Internet connection that you can use *during* the installation. The Debian Installer, once started from the first CD, will download everything else it may need from the Internet, as-you-go. You only need other CDs if you want to install Debian on a machine that has no (wired) Internet access. -- Regards, and good luck! From: Klistvud on 5 Jun 2010 14:10 Ooops, forgot to mention: it's the *.iso you need; the *.torrent is just a link you use if, instead of your browser, you prefer to use a bittorrent client for the download (if you don't know what bittorrent is, then don't bother, just download the *.iso with your browser). You *do* know that Lenny is the recommended version to download, right? It's the current stable release of Debian. I also suppose you know how to write an *.iso to a blank CD ROM? You don't "copy" it to the medium -- instead, you use the option "burn ISO" or "burn disk image" in your CD writing software. -- Regards, Klistvud Certifiable Loonix User #481801 http://bufferoverflow.tiddlyspot.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST(a)lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Since I don't use Squeeze, I can only suggest you download the 1st DVD; with Lenny at least, that's enough to get a bootable system (optionally with the Gnome desktop environment) which should get you going. Depending on your hardware, the video and/or the wireless card might prove to be a pain in the neck to get working. You'll know when you boot into the new system for the first time. -- Regards, and good luck, Klistvud Certifiable Loonix User #481801 http://bufferoverflow.tiddlyspot.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-REQUEST(a)lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
