I need to change the capital I letters, that usually appear as l lower case L,
in fonts such as MS San serif. The capital I should appear as the I does in
this message. In Word there used to be a way to edit individual characters,
but I'm unable to locate that option.

The 'shoulders' and 'feet' on the letter I are serifs. Consequently if you
use a Sans Serif (without serifs) font, they are missing - so use a serif
font.
