Does the hum go away when the fluorescent lights are turned off? That
hasn't been stated. If so, maybe their ballasts are polluting the AC line.

Then it`s the connector that`s either miswired or not balanced. You say
stage _jack_, it IS all balanced isnt it?

Maybe if you told us what the rest of the equipment is, someone would
stand a chance of diagnosing the problem.

Hum goes away when I turn the stage fluorescent light off. The rest of the
multitude of lights do not affect it.

Yes it is balanced. I checked the wiring, but am going to check it again
after I get back

Mackie 1202vlz, Audio Logic 660 compressor on the public mic channel,
Behringer DEQ2496, Crown XLX202 amp, 24+4 snake of unknown brand, two 12"
Yamaha speakers (will have to check model # when I take it down to paint
the mounts). With all this hooked up on a single outlet the system is
silent. Snake is at least 6 feet away from the lights and 10 feet above the
stage.

Hook up a mic cable to any of the floor jacks it picks up the fluorescent
lights. Plug in a mic to the cable and it is worse. The lights will be
needed for about 95% of the time this system is used. Also, when first
hooked up the hum was worse until I realized the temporary extension cord
had no ground and was swapped out. Permanent electrical is coming next
week, but we need this for this weekend. After changing out the extension
cord the hum was tolerable by cutting the mids. This also adversely
affected the sound quality, but was usable. The mics are AT DB125. Working
on replacing them with something acceptable, hand-me-downs from the
sanctuary, replaced by Sennheiser 835's.

The miswired cable could be one of the others in your system and plugging a
cable/mic in is what shows the problem is there but is not actually the
cause.

Does the noise go away if the lights are turned off? If not then you have a
grounding problem.
