From: Ken Schaefer on 20 Feb 2006 23:23 Where are you trying to copy it to? Recovery Console on supports copying to a limited set of locations. You can't just copy it to any old folder on the C: drive. Additionally, you need to have started the Recovery Console off the CD (so that the HAL is not in use) Cheers Ken "Sharon" <Sharon(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:473E5168-A06C-49BB-BC9A-D17DEF7CD1AE(a)microsoft.com... : Ken - : When I try the copy command, I get a message access denied? From: Sharon on 21 Feb 2006 08:21 Ken - I tried copying it to C:\windows\I386 as you indicated and I can't boot any other way than from a CD, actually an iso image of the VPC CD ( but I only have VPC6 OS disks as VPC7 was only an upgrade disk without Windows XP) as described here: vpc.essjae.com/vpc7/VPC7_XP_Manual_Install.pdf Also I didn't see any extract command from recovery console so I just tried copy d:\I386\hal.dl_ c:windows\I386\hall.dll Thanks Sharon "Ken Schaefer" wrote: > Where are you trying to copy it to? At this point it might just be easier to do a repair install. You can do that from the Windows XP CD. Skip past the recovery console option, and when it comes to setup you can choose to either install a new copy of Windows, or repair an existing copy. Choose to repair your existing copy.
