From: Hank on 23 May 2010 22:29 I am running Windows XP SP3 with all updates. Using PC Tools Internet Suite. Lately sometimes my PC hangs up on shutdown. I can tell when this is happening because the disc drive light quits blinking. In a normal shut down it is very active recording things etc until it shuts down. Now I know enabling Boot log gives you indications for what is happening at start up but does it tell you about shut down. Screen is already blue so no way to look at things to see what is going on. Can some one point me in the right direction to fix this problem? TIA email response not expected but to respond remove .uk at end TIA Hank

What has changed that may be affecting today that wasn't affecting it, say, last week? Have you scanned for malware recently? After checking everything else, you can try this: User Profile Hive Cleanup Service http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=1B286E6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en -- SC Tom

I already tried the hive clean up and note that uphclean.exe is running when I check. The most recent software and the only that I can think of is PC Tools Internet Suite. Have not dug into that yet. What I was wondering is there anyway to check what the hold up is? Have been taking so software out particularly Java related which was using a lot of my PC checking all the time if I am going to use it. Too many basic stuff is now loading our PC's with software running in the background to "make sure their software comes up quickly." Will continue looking. email response not expected but to respond remove .uk at end TIA Hank

I don't know of any shutdown trackers, but some others might. Have you tried Google? -- SC Tom
