I find that when I open an .html file form osx (10.6.2) it wants me to
confirm my understanding that it is a "web application" downloaded from
the internet. Am I really really sure I want to open it for sure?

And provides no default (candel/open), I have to fish around for my
mouse every time. I assume this is a "convenience" of 10.6, but would
love to know if I can do anything about it.

Yes, Safari is identified as the default application for html.

I don't do this myself, but everyone should have the option. I log in as
root sometimes too. I sometimes have an extra scotch when I know I've
had enough.
