I'm trying to model a proportional hydraulic valve with a pressure reducing and a pressure relieving action in Simulink or Simscape. Since this is quite a difficult task I was wondering if there were some people with more experience in this area.

The valve has three ports and is a spool type valve: one port for in and out flow from and to a cilinder (port A), one for incoming flow from the pump (port P) and one outgoing flow port to the tank (port T).

The reducing action is done by the pressure from port A and a reference volume with a spring, this force is balanced by pressure from a pilot flow from the P port. The relieving action is done by a solenoid controling a poppet valve.

The main problem i have is designing an effective way to control the position of the spool valve and the poppet valve. However all suggestions or advices on modelling this type of valve are welcome not just those about the control of the valve.

Dennis
