From: Debbie Wilson on 25 Apr 2010 12:30 Hi folks, If a blueberry iMac's HD is usually working but sometimes makes this sound: http://www.zoobotanica.plus.com/iMacHD.m4a whilst at the same time freezing, does this mean it's almost dead? I have one from a friend to give away on Freecycle but I think it may not be much of a gift.... Yes. You might see something about disk problems in system.log (Console.app). > I have one from a friend to give away on Freecycle but I think it may > not be much of a gift.... Nothing a new hard disk wouldn't fix of course! -- Chris

There's a chance (given the sound) it is the optical drive, but then given the whole machine seems to freeze while this is happening the odds are extremely high that it is the hard disk. Again, the system.log should reveal a bit more. > >> Nothing a new hard disk wouldn't fix of course! > > If I had a spare one I'd put it in and offer it anyway, but > unfortunately I don't... They're relatively inexpensive, but the pain might be trying to physically install it. -- Chris |
