(the ipad newsgroup hasn't shown up here yet, and I forgot its name anyway.)

And it's been available on eternal-september.org (free and good quality)
since very early on. Try it.

Which, according to the Newsgroup Propagation Search Engine, has only
found its way onto 9 out of the 49 monitored servers: Altopia, Bawue.de,
Easynews, France Academic, Internet Systems Consortium, LinuxFan Italy,
NewGuy, NNTPjunkie, and Switch.ch

It does generally take a while before new groups are widely available.
If it is not yet carried on your server then you could contact them and
ask them to add it - that might speed things up.

Thanks. I'll put in the request to Astraweb; they usually add valid
requests within 12 hours (used to be, you could fool them into
_creating_ a group for you, but someone must have wised them up to that
one).
